Best Performance in an Australian Short Film at Flickerfest International Short Film Festival

January 22, 2018 in Awards, Festivals, TOMORROW

Congratulations to our incredible lead, Matilda Ridgway, who last night won the inaugural Flickerfest Award for Best Performance in an Australian Short Film for TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW.

Of Matilda’s win, the Australian jury said:

“This is a new prize at Flickerfest in 2018 that we are thrilled to award, and want to thank Bronwyn for the privilege. We’re also proud that this progressive award isn’t divided into binary gender categories.

There were several incredible performances across the board in this year’s films. The recipient’s riveting performance captivated us from start to finish. Beautifully measured and naturalistic, she navigated the journey of a woman that feels incredibly timely to the current climate - that speaks to the dynamics of power between men and women in our industry and beyond. This nuanced and resonant performance indicates a rich future in acting ahead of her.

The award goes to Matilda Ridgway for TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW—written and directed by Sunday Emerson Gullifer.”

Thanks to Flickerfest and the jury for this honour, and Palace Cinemas for sponsoring Matilda’s prize—one year of free movies at Palace Cinemas!

December 01, 2017 in Festivals, Awards, Press

I was so delighted to be awarded the Luggi Waldleitner Award for Best Screenplay at Munich International Festival of Film Schools last week. Thank you to the festival staff and jury for such an incredible experience, as well as the Waldleitner family for sponsoring my prize, which will actually enable me to pay off my film!

At the closing night of the festival, I spoke to German broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk about TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW, #MeToo, and the financial reality of being an emerging filmmaker.

“The conscious (and unconscious) celebration of the male artistic “genius” is rife throughout the arts and perhaps more so in theatre where “visionary” and “iconoclastic” male directors can still be referred to as “wunderkind” well into their forties.”
