When I meet other film directors, especially those a little further down the road than me, I am always fascinated by how they make their bread and butter. Because more often than not, we're not just working to live, but also to fund the next project. And a job that pays enough to do both, and still leaves enough time and energy to actually work on your projects, is a job I want.
So I was fascinated by this Indiewire article that asked this year's SXSW directors exactly how do they pay their bills? It's worth a read.
As for me? At the moment, I'm living solely off my freelancing as an editor and marketing consultant. But that presents with its own challenges – primarily, never knowing when and where the next job will come from.
